"83 honda cb1000c,

I have oil pushing up into the tach cable and it leaks out around the lower boot on the replaced cable.

The original cable did not have this boot and yet it never leaked until the jacket had cracked.
Is this an inherent trait to this motor. Which might be the reason the for the boot on the new cable. Only it doesn't do anything.

How much oil pressure should there be in the cam cover cavity?

Should it push all the way up to the tach. or is it just spinning up the cable? It was loose at the tach end and was leaking that far up.

ANY THOUGHTS?

Hey happy to help ? but not sure on question ,,, where does it leak ? at the engine ? if so check crankcase ventalation port , or hose ,, it seems something is blocked and all the pressure is coming up the cable ? it has to breath from somewhere mate ,, refer to service manual ,,, if this is what you are talking about anyway cheers goodluck

There is a seal inside the tach drive that is causing the leak. The tack drive is located on top of the valve cover.
Go to www.MRCYLES.com for a parts FICHE of your bike, http://www.mrcycles.com/...e_section_detail.asp
OIL SEAL
91256-425-003 lists for $3.57

There is low oil pressure in the valve cover. However, the oil will travel up the tack drive . The seals bad. Replace the seal and your oil problem will vanish
