KAWASAKI CONCOURS HISTORY:

History of the Kawasaki Concours Motorcycle:

The Kawasaki ZG1000A1 a.k.a GTR1000 or Concours was first released in 1986. The Kawasaki Concours was designed as Japan's answer to the domination of the touring bike market by BMW.

The Kawasaki GTR was pitted against the BMW K100RT (also called the flying brick) but was priced quite a few thousand dollars cheaper.

Coming equipped as standard with a water-cooled one litre four cylinder engine, shaft drive, 28.5 litre fuel tank, large panniers, and full weather protection fairing it was and it still is considered an excellent value for money sports touring motorcycle.

The bullet-proof 4 cylinder engine is based on that used in the GPZ1000RX but has been slightly detuned to allow for more touring orientated use. This same engine has been around since it's use in the classic GPZ900 sports bike.

The bike has been through several models A1 - A12, though the only real change has been to the 1994 model onwards and those changes could only be considered as evolutionary and minor.
